Imphal, May 25: The outgoing Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur, Rajiv Singh, announced on Monday that authorities have identified 5,406 posts deemed sensitive, violent, or communal since the onset of ethnic unrest in June 2023. Approximately 3,200 of these posts have been removed, and 187 accounts and pages have been blocked.

These actions were executed in collaboration with the state IT Department and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) at the national level.

During an event where Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh inaugurated 477 police vehicles, including armored units and motorcycles, the DGP emphasized the importance of monitoring and verifying misinformation to maintain public order.

"The outreach of Manipur Police on social media has significantly increased, with Facebook followers rising to 79,000 and X followers to 27,000," he noted.

Reflecting on his tenure, DGP Singh remarked that when he assumed office in June 2023, the state was facing unprecedented challenges due to community violence.

He highlighted the necessity for both immediate responses and long-term enhancements to the police force. A detailed modernization plan was submitted to the state government by the end of 2023.

On October 31, 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs allocated Rs 196.61 crore for bolstering security measures, infrastructure, mobility, forensics, communication systems, and smart policing initiatives.

Singh urged the public to cooperate fully with security personnel during these challenging times.

It is noteworthy that Mukesh Singh, a 1996-batch IPS officer from the AGMUT cadre, is set to take over as the new DGP of Manipur on May 30, following the Centre's approval of his inter-cadre deputation as a special case in public interest.
