Promoting Unity in Diversity

Imphal: The Chief Minister of Manipur, Y Khemchand Singh, announced plans to establish a committee that will include representatives from all 36 communities within the state. This initiative aims to foster peace, harmony, and inclusive development.

This proposal emerged after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inquired about the existence of such a committee to unify the diverse communities.

Singh made these remarks during a ceremony on Saturday, where he honored tribal hill chiefs at the Chief Minister's Secretariat in Imphal.

The event coincided with the inauguration of the Hill (Tribal) Chiefs' Guest House at the Palace Compound, part of the Mera Hou Chongba Festival celebrations.

Reflecting on the historical contributions of all communities in defending Manipur, Singh referenced the Anglo-Manipur War and the Seven Years' Devastation, paying homage to those who sacrificed for the state's land, identity, and heritage.

He expressed optimism that the festival would pave the way for peace and prosperity while reinforcing the spirit of brotherhood among the people.

Singh noted with joy that individuals from the hill regions, including those who previously hesitated to visit Imphal, participated in this year's festival.

He emphasized that the guest house represents more than just a building; it symbolizes the unity between the hills and the valley.

The Mera Hou Chongba festival is dedicated to celebrating peace and brotherhood among the various tribes and communities in Manipur.
