Manipur Legislative Assembly's Budget Session Set to Commence

The 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly is set to begin its Budget session on March 9, running until March 17. The session will include the presentation of the State Budget for 2026-27, discussions on supplementary demands for grants, and various committee reports. Key political figures, including the Chief Minister, will be present as the assembly addresses important fiscal matters. Overview of the Upcoming Budget Session


IMPHAL, March 9: The Budget session for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly is scheduled to commence on Monday, featuring a total of seven sittings that will run until March 17. The session will kick off with the presentation of the State Budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.


The assembly will begin with any necessary obituary references, followed by the presentation of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) report, the Budget estimates for 2026-27, and a discussion on the Governor’s address, as outlined in the provisional calendar released by the Secretary of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.


On the second day, which is Tuesday, there will be a general discussion regarding supplementary demands for grants for the fiscal year 2025-26, along with discussions and voting on these supplementary demands.


The following day, March 11, will include the presentation of committee reports (if available) and discussions and voting on supplementary demands for various government departments, covering ten different sectors, along with a motion for elections to three financial committees.


From March 12 until the session concludes on March 17, there will be a question and answer session, along with considerations for various departments and the passing of any government bills.


The decision to convene this session was made during a BAC meeting led by Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata, with Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh also in attendance.


The previous session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly took place on February 5, featuring the Governor’s address, just a day after BJP leader Yumnam Khemchand Singh took the oath as the 13th Chief Minister of the State, and was subsequently adjourned sine die.
