Imphal, May 22: On Friday, Y Khemchand Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur, encouraged the state's residents to engage in discussions rather than resorting to bandhs or blockades.
Speaking at the inauguration of a bridge in Akham Makha Leikai, Singh remarked, "Imposing bandhs and blockades out of frustration with the government only results in difficulties, especially for those who earn daily wages."
He shared his experiences from two visits to Jiribam, one by helicopter and another by road, where he interacted with community members from Kuki, Paite, Hmar, and Meitei groups, noting their amicable relations.
Singh expressed sorrow over a tragic incident in April when a bomb attack in Bishnupur district claimed the lives of two young children, highlighting the subsequent economic disruptions caused by shutdowns and bandhs.
He urged the public to seek dialogue to foster mutual understanding during times of frustration, emphasizing that bandhs primarily affect daily wage earners.
In a social media update, Singh announced the inauguration of the RCC Bridge over the Nambul River in Akham Mayai Leikai, attended by MLA S Rajen Singh from Lamsang AC.
He noted that this crucial infrastructure will enhance connectivity, ease the movement of people and goods, bolster local markets, and promote economic growth and inclusive development.
Singh reaffirmed the government's dedication to improving road connectivity and developing quality infrastructure for the benefit and advancement of Manipur's citizens.
