Imphal, Oct 8: Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh of Manipur announced that the construction of fencing along a 55-km segment of the 240 km border has been finalized. The total cost for the fencing project is estimated to be around Rs 3,223 crore, with piers for an additional 80-km stretch already in place.
During the Seva Jyoti Yatra held at Kangla Fort, which celebrated 25 years of continuous public service by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Khemchand Singh expressed his gratitude for the developmental efforts in the state.
Five districts, namely Churachandpur, Chandel, Kamjong, Tengnoupal, and Ukhrul, share a 398-km border with Myanmar, with Kamjong district alone having a 109-km boundary with the neighboring nation.
The Chief Minister praised Prime Minister Modi for enhancing railway connectivity, which has now reached Khongsang in Tamenglong district, thereby improving access to essential goods.
He also highlighted the establishment of the National Sports University, the first of its kind in India, in Manipur, along with the opening of Churachandpur Medical College in the hill district of Churachandpur.
Furthermore, he noted a significant increase in access to clean drinking water in remote areas, rising from six percent to nearly 80 percent.
Khemchand Singh emphasized that advocating for peace and unity in the valley districts alone would not suffice for lasting harmony, as these areas represent only eight percent of the state's total geographical expanse.
Rajya Sabha member A Sharda Devi, in her address, commended Prime Minister Modi for implementing schemes that directly benefit the grassroots population.
