Manikoot Festival Celebrates Unity in Hajo
A Vibrant Celebration of Harmony
Nalbari, Jan 15: The historic town of Hajo came alive on Thursday with the lively Manikoot Festival, featuring a colorful 'Sammanoy Xobhayatra' (Harmony Rally) organized by the Hajo Anchalik Students’ Union. This event highlighted the town's long-standing tradition of communal harmony.
The Sammanoy Xobhayatra commenced near the Poa Mecca Dargah Sharif and proceeded to Domothaguri within the Hayagriva Madhava Temple grounds, symbolizing the unique blend of faiths present in Hajo.
As the procession made its way through the main streets, it became a vibrant display of cultural motifs, music, and artistic performances, attracting large crowds who gathered along the route.
“This yatra sends a powerful message that in Assam, all religions and communities stand united, now and in the future,” stated Dr. Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharyya, adviser to the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), emphasizing the event's importance beyond mere celebration.
The rally featured notable attendees, including Kamrup district commissioner Deb Kumar Mishra, AASU general secretary Samiran Phukan, actor Arun Hazarika, singers Bhrigu Kashyap and Dipanwita Deka, as well as popular actors Nayan Nilim and Naz Sheikh, and actress Priyam Pallabi, alongside other AASU leaders and volunteers.
A participant remarked, “The main goal of the Manikoot Utsav is to utilize Hajo as a platform to promote peace and harmony among all religions and communities throughout Assam.”
The rally was jointly inaugurated by Shiva Prasad Sharma from the Hajo Panchatirtha Management Committee and Khadim Alhaj Syed Farid Ali of the Poa Mecca Dargah Sharif, reinforcing the spirit of unity that characterizes this pilgrimage town.
Reflecting Assam’s rich cultural diversity and shared heritage, the event transformed Hajo into a vibrant tapestry of harmony, faith, and togetherness, leaving the town filled with enthusiasm and hope.
