New Directive for Madrasas in West Bengal
The Directorate of Madrasa Education in West Bengal has mandated that all government, aided, and recognized madrasas in the state must sing 'Vande Mataram' during the morning assembly before classes commence. This directive is effective immediately. The announcement was confirmed by Khudiram Tudu, who oversees the Minority Affairs and Madrasa Education Department under the current BJP government led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
In defense of this initiative, Tudu stated that if the national song is already compulsory in other government educational institutions, including schools where Santali is the medium of instruction, then recognized madrasas should not be exempt. Following this, the Directorate of Madrasa Education issued an official notification stating that singing 'Vande Mataram' is mandatory during the morning assembly for all government model madrasas, recognized aided madrasas, approved MSKs and SSKs, as well as recognized non-aided madrasas under the Minority Affairs and Madrasa Education Department.
The directive specifies that this new order replaces all previous practices and has been implemented with the approval of the competent authority. Earlier this month, the West Bengal School Education Department also made it compulsory for all government schools across the state to sing 'Vande Mataram.' This notification was issued following an announcement by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
