Manchester City Welcomes Geronimo Rulli Back

In a strategic move for the upcoming Premier League season, Manchester City has re-signed Argentine goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from Olympique de Marseille. The 34-year-old has agreed to a two-year deal, stepping in as a seasoned backup following James Trafford's transfer to Leeds United. Although Rulli previously played for City during the 2016-17 season, he did not make any senior appearances. His experience is expected to bolster the competition for the starting position, currently held by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

"This is an amazing opportunity for me and one I had to grasp," Rulli expressed in a club statement. "When the chance to join Manchester City comes along, you have to take it. Everyone knows what an impressive club this is."

Rulli's Notable Career Highlights

Rulli has represented Argentina internationally, earning eight caps and contributing to the national team's victories in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2024 Copa America. His European career includes stints at Real Sociedad, Montpellier, Villarreal, and Ajax Amsterdam, where he played a crucial role in Villarreal's 2021 UEFA Europa League final win against Manchester United.

Chelsea Secures Pep Chavarria

Chelsea has also made a significant addition by signing Spanish left-back Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano on a contract that extends until 2031. While the club has not disclosed the financial specifics, reports suggest an initial fee of £16.3 million, with potential add-ons of £1.7 million for the 28-year-old.

"This is a dream for me as Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world. It is a big opportunity but I am prepared and will work hard to help the team achieve success," Chavarria stated.

Chavarria's Path to Chelsea

Chavarria began his professional journey with Figueres, Olot, and Zaragoza in Spain's lower leagues before joining Rayo Vallecano in 2022. He made 125 appearances for Rayo and played a pivotal role in their journey to the UEFA Conference League final last season. His signing enhances Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso's options at left-back, especially following Marc Cucurella's transfer to Real Madrid.

Chelsea, who finished 10th in the Premier League last season, will kick off their new campaign against Fulham on August 24.
