Manav Shah Makes History as First AM Green IGPL Player to Qualify for Major Championship
Historic Qualification for Manav Shah
Manav Shah, an Indian-American golfer, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first player from the AM Green IGPL to qualify for a Major championship since the league's inception in September of last year.
At 33 years old, Shah has demonstrated impressive performance this season, securing three Top-7 finishes and one T-11 in just four IGPL tournaments. His experience also includes several months competing on the Asian Development Tour and the Asian Tour.
This is an exciting time for Indian-origin golfers, especially following Aaron Rai's victory at the PGA Championship, marking his first Major win. Now, Shah is set to make his Major debut.
"Competing in a Major is incredible, and I’ve had a fantastic run at the AM Green IGPL, leading me to the US Open," Shah expressed.
He achieved a total score of 7-under with rounds of 66 and 71, finishing fourth in the 36-hole final qualifying event at the Dallas Athletic Club, which secured his place in the prestigious U.S. Open. His sectional qualifier score was 5-under, with a 66 and an even-par 71, earning him one of the coveted spots in the Major championship.
This will mark Shah's first appearance in a Major championship.
The 2026 US Open is scheduled to take place at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
Shah's Journey and Achievements
Manav Shah, whose parents hail from India, grew up in Bakersfield, California, where he honed his skills on local public golf courses before playing collegiate golf for the UCLA Bruins. He graduated in 2015 with a degree in Political Science.
Throughout his career, Shah has claimed eight professional titles worldwide. His most notable victory was at the 2022 Quito Open on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica, making him the second Indian-American to win a PGA Tour-sanctioned event, following Arjun Awal's win at the Wyndham Championship in 2010.
Currently, Shah competes on the IGPL tour in India and has secured full playing status on the Asian Tour through Q-School, recently participating in the International Series.
Dallas Qualifier Highlights
The Dallas qualifier was topped by Peter Uihlein with scores of 67 and 66, while Tom Kim secured second place with rounds of 66 and 68. Cooper Dossey finished third with scores of 65 and 70.
Former US Open champion Graeme McDowell will return to the Major for the first time since 2020 after successfully qualifying through the 36-hole event at Dallas Athletic Club.
McDowell, who won the US Open in 2010, was among nine players to qualify for the Shinnecock Hills tournament, finishing with scores of 69 and 69. He also placed T2 at the 2012 US Open.
PGA Tour winner Tom Kim required final qualifying to secure his fifth US Open appearance, having finished T8 in 2023.
While nine players celebrated their qualification, notable golfers like Sergio Garcia faced disappointment, missing out on the Major after participating in 25 consecutive US Opens until 2025.
