Arrest in Wife's Murder Case

Lucknow, August 3 - A man and his alleged girlfriend have been apprehended for the murder of his wife, whose body was discovered in the Gomti River. Authorities provided this information on Monday. The suspects have been identified as Umendra Pratap Singh (31) and his girlfriend Aarti Verma (31).

According to officials, on the night of July 30-31, Umendra, a resident of the Rahimabad police station area, filed a missing person report for his wife, Anjali Singh. This prompted the police to initiate a search for the woman. On July 31, an unidentified female body was recovered from the Gomti River in the Itauja police station area, which was later identified by family members as Anjali.

Following this, a complaint was lodged by the deceased's brother, leading to the registration of a case under sections 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), 103(1) (murder), and 238 (tampering with evidence and providing false information) of the Indian Penal Code at the Rahimabad police station.

The police reported that the complaint accused Umendra of murdering Anjali. Officials stated that Umendra Pratap Singh was arrested on the night of August 1 near the Adoura turn. During interrogation, he revealed that Anjali had discovered his relationship with Aarti and had opposed it multiple times.

To eliminate this obstacle, Umendra, in collaboration with Aarti, allegedly murdered Anjali by suffocating her and strangling her on the night of July 30-31. They then disposed of her body in the Gomti River.
