This meeting took place following an alleged attack on Kalyan Banerjee near the Chanditala police station in Hooghly. The TMC shared a photo of the visit on their official 'X' account, showing Mamata seated while Kalyan lay on a bed.
Mamata Banerjee Criticizes BJP on Social Media
Prior to her visit, Mamata Banerjee took to the social media platform 'X' to launch a strong critique against the BJP government and its supporters. She stated, "Yesterday, BJP supporters brutally attacked TMC's Lok Sabha floor leader Abhishek Banerjee, injuring him severely. Disturbing videos of this attack are now circulating in the public domain."
She further added, "Today, our Chief Whip Kalyan Banerjee also fell victim to a calculated attack by the BJP. They are murdering democracy."
Allegations of Assault with a Leather Ball
Kalyan Banerjee alleged that while he was on his way to submit a memorandum regarding post-election violence in the Chandipur area, he was attacked by BJP workers. He claimed that he was struck on the head with a leather ball. In protest of this assault, TMC leaders lay down in the middle of the road, only to be lifted by police officers later. Following the incident, TMC workers vocally protested against the BJP.
