Mamata Banerjee Calls for Swift Action from Election Commission

On July 29, former Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, urged the Election Commission to expedite its investigation into the ongoing dispute regarding the claim over the Trinamool Congress (TMC) without granting any further time to the opposing faction. In a letter addressed to Ashwini Kumar Mohal, the Secretary of the Election Commission, she requested that the commission complete the inquiry into the TMC claim as soon as possible and not provide any additional dates for the opposing side to present their arguments.

She stated, “Given the serious political implications of this matter in West Bengal, I request that you conclude the investigation promptly and refrain from allowing the opposing faction any further opportunities to submit their arguments.”

Mamata asserted that despite the commission repeatedly granting extensions, the opposing faction has failed to submit a response. She noted, “This leads to the conclusion that the arguments and statements we provided in our letter dated July 6, 2026, have been accepted, and they have no counterarguments to our claims.”

Furthermore, she accused the opposing faction of misusing the repeated extensions granted to them.

She added, “We firmly believe that due to the continuous extensions provided by you, Ritabrata Banerjee and others are attempting to fabricate false evidence to strengthen their case, as their allegations lack substance, and we have strongly refuted them.”
