Mamata Banerjee to Hold Online Meeting with Counting Agents Ahead of West Bengal Elections
Preparation for Vote Counting in West Bengal
Two days prior to the counting of votes for the West Bengal Assembly elections, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, who serves as the national secretary of the Trinamool Congress, will conduct an online meeting with all party counting agents on Saturday evening. A senior party official confirmed this information.
Scheduled for 4 PM, the meeting will include counting agents from the 291 assembly constituencies where the ruling party has fielded candidates.
The Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM), led by Anit Thapa, contested the remaining three seats in Darjeeling.
During this online session, leaders will brief the counting agents on their responsibilities to ensure that there are no errors during the counting process on May 4.
A senior leader from the Trinamool, who wished to remain anonymous, stated, 'The most crucial instruction for agents will be to remain at the counting center until the counting is complete and the winners receive their certificates.'
He added, 'Any unusual activities, such as the sudden power outage that occurred at the Nandigram counting center in 2021, should be reported immediately to the party's top leadership.'
The leader emphasized that in such situations, counting agents must wait for instructions from senior leaders before taking any action.
The meeting on Saturday will also cover key aspects of the counting process, including the number of counting phases and the protocols to be followed after retrieving the EVMs from the strongroom and opening the seals.
Additionally, it was noted that this time, the Election Commission has implemented QR code measures for security during the counting, so counting agents will need to be proficient in using mobile devices.
