Mamata Banerjee Takes Charge as TMC State President Amid Internal Turmoil

Mamata Banerjee has announced her new role as the president of the West Bengal Trinamool Congress (TMC) amidst significant internal strife. This decision follows the resignation of Chandrima Bhattacharya from all party positions, coinciding with reports of a rebel faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee taking control of the party's state office. The new leadership structure includes the formation of a National Working Committee, with calls for Banerjee to serve as a mentor. The rebel faction claims substantial support from party legislators, indicating a turbulent period ahead for the TMC.
 

Mamata Banerjee's New Role in TMC

On Saturday, Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and former Chief Minister of West Bengal, announced that she will also take on the role of the party's state president. In a video message, she stated, "As the chairperson of AITC, I declare that I will now serve as the president of the West Bengal TMC." Additionally, she appointed Madan Mitra and Kunal Ghosh as secretaries of the state committee.


Resignation of Chandrima Bhattacharya

In a related development, Chandrima Bhattacharya, the TMC state president and former minister, resigned from all party positions on the same day. This resignation comes amid significant political upheaval in West Bengal, particularly after reports surfaced that a rebel faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee had taken control of the TMC's state party office in Kolkata.


Formation of New Leadership Structure

Earlier, Ritabrata announced the establishment of a new leadership structure for the All India Trinamool Congress Committee, appointing Arup Roy as its president. He also formed a 30-member National Working Committee (NWC) and expressed his desire for Mamata Banerjee to serve as a mentor within the party. The committee includes notable members such as Farhad Hakim, Arup Biswas, Rathin Ghosh, Sabina Yasmin, and Javed Khan, with several appointed as vice presidents.


Support for the Rebel Faction

Ritabrata reiterated that the rebel faction claims to have the backing of at least 58 out of 80 party legislators. They have emphasized the importance of Mamata Banerjee continuing her role as a guiding figure within the organization.
