Protests Erupt During Mamata Banerjee's Visit
On Sunday, Mamata Banerjee, the former Chief Minister of West Bengal and leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), encountered significant opposition in the North 24 Parganas district. While attempting to visit the family of a TMC worker who died in police custody in the Bijpur area, she was met with chants of 'thief-thief' from demonstrators, who also hurled mud and stones at her vehicle.
Serious Allegations of Intent to Kill
Following the incident, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee made grave accusations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He stated, "We visited the home of the victimized worker, who was taken by police in a case where he wasn't even named in the FIR. Upon Mamata Banerjee's arrival, BJP workers began throwing large stones at her vehicle before we even got there. This was not merely a protest; it was a calculated attempt to harm Mamata didi."
Kalyan Banerjee's Claims Against BJP and Police
Kalyan Banerjee further claimed that hundreds of BJP supporters were present during the incident, actively engaging in stone-throwing while the police stood by without intervening. He alleged that the entire attack was orchestrated under the direction of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. The situation in the area has since escalated, intensifying the political climate in the state.
