Mamata Banerjee Challenges Legislative Speaker in Kolkata High Court
Mamata Banerjee Appears in Court Over Opposition Leader Issue
Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made her way to the Kolkata High Court recently. According to court sources, the Trinamool Congress has filed a petition against the Assembly Speaker regarding the election of Ritabrata Banerjee as the leader of the opposition. Mamata Banerjee's visit to the court is linked to this ongoing matter. Notably, she had previously represented herself in a case related to post-election violence at the same court, where she presented her arguments.
Ritabrata Banerjee has indicated that the number of rebel legislators could rise to between 67 and 68. The Trinamool Congress had secured a total of 80 seats in the Assembly elections. Initially, Ritabrata Banerjee submitted a letter of support from 58 legislators to Speaker Rathindra Bose, which led to his recognition as the opposition leader. Subsequently, it is reported that three additional legislators have submitted separate letters of support, with claims of more support letters from other legislators.
TMC Leadership Vows to Challenge BJP's Authority
Following the recent electoral defeat in West Bengal, party leader Mamata Banerjee expressed confidence that the BJP-led central government would soon be ousted from power. During a meeting with party legislators in Kalighat, Banerjee stated that the BJP would be removed from power in Delhi in the coming days. TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, present at the meeting, affirmed that the party leadership would not back down in their fight against the BJP, regardless of the circumstances.
Addressing the legislators, Abhishek Banerjee criticized Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and questioned his political integrity. According to TMC sources, he remarked, "We have had many chief ministers in our state, but none like the current one. The person seen accepting money on camera has been made the CM. He can do whatever he wants... let them demolish my house, send notices. I will not be swayed by these tactics. No matter what happens, my fight against the BJP will continue."
