Malaysian Delegation Strengthens Sikh Heritage Ties in Anandpur Sahib

A high-ranking Malaysian delegation, led by Deputy Chief Minister Y. B. Jagdeep Singh Deo, visited Anandpur Sahib to engage with Sikh leaders. The discussions focused on enhancing cultural and spiritual connections between the Sikh community in Malaysia and Punjab, emphasizing the preservation of Sikh heritage and historical institutions. Deo praised the role of Sikh leaders in connecting the diaspora with their faith and traditions. Meeting at Akal Takht

On August 9, a high-level delegation from Malaysia, led by Deputy Chief Minister Y. B. Jagdeep Singh Deo, visited Anandpur Sahib to meet with Giani Kuldeep Singh Gurdwara, the Jathedar of Akal Takht. The group included prominent Malaysian business figures and community leaders such as Dato (honorary title) Prof. Dr. B. S. Bains, historian Simar Singh, and Akshay Singh Deo, who hails from the Mirpur royal family.

During their discussions, the delegation emphasized the importance of strengthening cultural and spiritual ties between the global Sikh community, its heritage, religious institutions, Sikhs residing in Malaysia, and the historical Sikh institutions in Punjab.

Deo expressed profound respect for Akal Takht Sahib and commended the efforts of Sikh religious leaders in connecting the younger generation and Sikhs living abroad with their faith, heritage, and history. As a senior leader in Penang, he represents the fourth generation of his family involved in Malaysian politics and currently holds the position of Deputy Chief Minister, the second-highest political role in the state government.

Since 2008, he has served as an elected representative in Penang. The delegation also highlighted the significance of preserving historical Sikh institutions and Gurdwaras in Malaysia. The Jathedar appreciated the delegation's commitment to safeguarding Sikh heritage and historical Gurdwaras in Malaysia during their meeting.

Furthermore, they stressed the importance of preserving Sikh identity, traditions, Gurbani, and Sikh values among the younger generation and Sikh diaspora worldwide.
