Major Success for Indian Intelligence: Notorious Gangster Arrested in Turkey
Significant Arrest of Salim Dola
Indian intelligence agencies have achieved a significant breakthrough in their fight against organized crime. Salim Dola, a close associate of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, has been apprehended in Istanbul, Turkey, and is now on his way back to India. This arrest is a result of effective collaboration between international law enforcement agencies and Indian intelligence units.
According to officials, Dola was transported to Delhi this morning via a special flight after being detained in Turkey. Upon arrival, he was taken into custody at the Technical Airport in Delhi, where intelligence agencies are currently interrogating him.
Sources indicate that this operation was executed through close cooperation between Indian intelligence and international law enforcement, enabling his transfer from Istanbul to India.
Next Steps for Dola
Following initial questioning in Delhi, Dola is expected to be handed over to the Mumbai police for further investigation and legal proceedings. Authorities believe that Dola has had longstanding ties to Dawood Ibrahim's criminal network, and his return to India could provide crucial leads in ongoing investigations related to organized crime syndicates.
India-Turkey Extradition Treaty
India and Turkey established a formal legal framework for cooperation in combating terrorism and cross-border crimes through an extradition treaty signed in 2001. This agreement was later ratified and came into effect in June 2002.
The treaty was signed by then Indian Home Minister Lal Krishna Advani and Turkish Justice Minister Hikmet Sami Türk on June 29, 2001, marking a significant step towards enhancing judicial cooperation between the two nations.
Under this treaty, both countries agreed to extradite individuals accused of crimes or convicted of offenses that carry a minimum sentence of one year under their respective laws. This provision was designed to ensure that criminals cannot evade justice by moving between the two countries.
Additional Agreements
In addition to the extradition treaty, India and Turkey entered into another agreement in December 2012, focusing on the transfer of convicted prisoners, allowing them to serve their sentences in their home countries under certain conditions.
