Maihar (Madhya Pradesh), April 11: A serious road accident occurred on National Highway 30 near Rigra Bridge in Maihar on Saturday morning, resulting in injuries to at least 15 individuals, according to officials.

Details of the Collision

The incident took place within the jurisdiction of Nadan Police Station when a fast-moving trailer collided forcefully with the back of a stationary tractor-trolley that had been parked on the roadside due to running out of diesel.

Public Outrage

Frustration among the public grew due to the slow response from local law enforcement. Panch Raj Singh, the officer in charge of Nadan Police Station, reportedly arrived at the scene over two hours after being notified, leading to anger from the families of the victims and bystanders.

Victims and Emergency Response

All those injured were from Beldara village and were returning from a 'Barho' ceremony when the accident occurred. The force of the crash was so intense that several passengers were thrown from the vehicle. The tractor-trolley was carrying multiple individuals at the time.

Following the accident, chaos ensued, causing significant traffic congestion on NH-30. Emergency services were activated after bystanders expressed their frustration, and personnel from the Highway Patrolling Team transported the injured to local medical facilities.

Most of the injured were taken to Civil Hospitals in Maihar and Amarpatan, while two individuals in critical condition were sent to the District Hospital in Satna for further treatment, as reported by police officials.

Among those admitted to Amarpatan Civil Hospital were Sankhibai Saket (50), Ajay Bunkar (17), Pradeep Saket (24), and Santosh Saket (50). Several other victims are also receiving care at the Maihar hospital.

Investigation Underway

In a separate incident, relatives of patients at Amarpatan Civil Hospital expressed their frustration after a '108' ambulance failed to arrive for several hours.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident, including factors such as speeding and the presence of the parked vehicle on the highway. Police have filed a case and are currently interrogating the driver of the trailer, who has been taken into custody.
