Significant Developments in Bengaluru Terror Case

A significant breakthrough has emerged in a 2023 case involving the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba in Bengaluru. On Friday, officials reported that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against three individuals, including a psychiatrist, in connection with the Bengaluru terror conspiracy linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

In its second supplementary charge sheet submitted to a Bengaluru court on Thursday, the NIA named Anees Fatima, Chan Pasha A, and Nagaraj S under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosive Substances Act, the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the Karnataka Prison Act.

According to officials, the second supplementary charge sheet filed in a Bengaluru court on Thursday identified Anees Fatima, Chan Pasha A, and Nagaraj S under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosive Substances Act, the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the Karnataka Prison Act.

The investigation, initially handled by local police, was transferred to the NIA in October 2023. Previously, the NIA had filed charges against nine accused, including the fugitive Junaid Ahmed. According to a statement from officials, the case was originally registered by the Bengaluru City Police in July 2023. It involved the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and digital devices from habitual offenders who had plotted to spread terror in Bengaluru, intending to undermine India's sovereignty and security.

The statement further indicated that these activities were aimed at promoting the interests of Lashkar-e-Taiba and were part of a larger conspiracy to assist T. Nasir in escaping while being transported to court from jail. Nasir was a detainee in the 2008 Bengaluru serial bomb blast cases.

The NIA's statement revealed that one of the three accused named in the charge sheet, Anees Fatima, has been identified as the mother of Junaid Ahmed. The statement noted that she provided logistical support and funding to T. Nasir while he was at the Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru.
