Major Maoist Camp Discovered Near Odisha-Chhattisgarh Border: Explosives Seized
Maoist Camp Disrupted in Nuapada District
Nuapada: Authorities have dismantled a Maoist camp and confiscated a significant amount of explosives during a search operation conducted by the District Voluntary Force (DVF) in a forested area near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, as reported by police on Tuesday.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Gundala Reddy Raghavendra informed the media at the district police headquarters that the operation took place on Monday in the vicinity of Narayan Dongri, a protected forest area adjacent to Jharabandh village within the Sinapali police jurisdiction in Nuapada district.
The DVF initiated the combing operation based on intelligence reports indicating Maoist activities in the area, leading to the discovery of the camp.
The SP stated that security forces recovered a tiffin bomb, 20 gelatin sticks, and an electric detonator, among other items associated with the Maoists. Prior alerts from intelligence sources had indicated Maoist movements in the dense forests of Narayan Dongri. Following the SP's orders, DVF personnel commenced the operation early Monday and successfully dismantled the camp.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the Maoists were attempting to regroup in the region and might have been planning a significant attack. Security officials suspect that intensified anti-Maoist operations in neighboring Chhattisgarh are driving the rebels to seek refuge in the bordering areas of Odisha.
The SP remarked, “The Maoist rebels are trying to establish new hideouts in the hilly and forested regions along the Nuapada-Chhattisgarh border. However, the seizure of explosives and the destruction of the camp have significantly undermined their plans.”
