Major Iranian Military Leaders Reportedly Killed in Israeli Airstrikes: What This Means for the Middle East
Significant Losses for Iran's Military Leadership
Tel Aviv: On Sunday, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported the deaths of seven high-ranking Iranian military officials, including Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh and the Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), following targeted airstrikes across Iran.
Iran has yet to officially acknowledge the fatalities of the commanders listed by Israel.
These killings are part of a broader offensive led by the United States and Israel aimed at dismantling Iran's military capabilities, significantly escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The IDF stated that the operation was carried out by the Israel Air Force (IAF) after military intelligence pinpointed two locations in Tehran where senior Iranian security officials were convened.
Among those reported dead is Ali Shamkhani, a key advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a notable figure in Iran's defense sector. The IDF indicated that Shamkhani had previously been targeted during last year's conflicts.
The Israeli military also confirmed the death of Mohammad Pakpour, the commander of the IRGC, who was accused of orchestrating plans against Israel and overseeing missile and drone operations aimed at Israeli interests.
Other officials identified by Israel as deceased include Salah Asadi, Mohammad Shirazi, and several senior members linked to Iran's SPND weapons development organization.
Israel claimed these individuals were instrumental in missile production, coordination with regional proxy forces, and advancing sophisticated weaponry, including nuclear-related projects.
"The world is a better place without them," stated the IDF.
In a separate report, Iranian state media claimed that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was also killed in the strikes conducted by the US and Israel.
This incident represents a pivotal moment in the 46-year Shia-theocratic governance of Iran, as Tehran's response could ignite further conflicts across the region.
