Major Drug Trafficker Arrested in Nurpur with Over 2.5 Kg of Charas

In a significant operation, the CIA team of Nurpur Police arrested a drug smuggler near Nagabari Toll Plaza, seizing over 2.5 kilograms of charas. The suspect, Ashwani Kumar, was caught during a routine patrol while riding a motorcycle. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings under the NDPS Act, with a commitment to continue their crackdown on drug trafficking. This arrest underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat illegal drug activities in the region.

In a notable achievement in the fight against drug trafficking, the CIA unit of Nurpur Police arrested a smuggler close to the Nagabari Toll Plaza, seizing 2.532 kilograms of charas (cannabis). The individual was on a Hero Splendor motorcycle (registration number PB 35 H 9592), which has also been confiscated.


While conducting routine patrols, officers stopped the motorcycle and discovered the illegal substances in the rider's possession. The suspect has been identified as:



  • Ashwani Kumar (33), son of Jaswant Rai, residing in Ravidas Mohalla, Narot Mehra, Tehsil & District Pathankot, Punjab.


The suspect was apprehended at the scene. A case has been filed under the NDPS Act, and further legal actions are in progress.


The Additional Superintendent of Police in Nurpur confirmed the arrest, emphasizing that stringent measures against drug traffickers will persist.
