Significant Drug Seizures in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: In a significant operation, law enforcement officials apprehended four individuals and confiscated brown sugar valued at ₹40 lakh during raids conducted in the Balasore and Khurda districts of Odisha, as reported on Tuesday.


Following a tip-off, police and excise agents executed a raid late Monday night, resulting in the seizure of 145 grams of brown sugar from the Bhograi Jagannathpur Chak area, according to a police spokesperson.


Two suspects were taken into custody, and investigations are ongoing, the officer noted.


The estimated value of the seized drugs is around ₹15 lakh, along with ₹5,500 in cash found in their possession.


In a separate incident, authorities arrested two additional individuals and seized 258 grams of brown sugar worth approximately ₹25 lakh from the Chhannagiri Chhak area within the Jankia police jurisdiction in Khurda district on Monday.


Khurda Superintendent of Police Sagarika Nath stated, "We acted on a tip-off regarding drug peddlers traveling on a motorcycle. Our team promptly intercepted the vehicle around 7 am on Monday and seized the illegal substances."


The arrested individuals are both males, aged 20 and 22 years.
