Significant Anti-Drug Operation in Dibrugarh

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, multiple police teams conducted coordinated raids across several abandoned railway colony quarters.

Dibrugarh, June 15: In a significant anti-drug operation, authorities apprehended ten individuals suspected of drug trafficking and confiscated a considerable amount of narcotics, cash, vehicles, and other incriminating items in Assam's Dibrugarh district.

As reported by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Abhijit Dilip, the operation took place on Sunday in Harijan Colony, located near the Dibrugarh Town railway station.

Following specific intelligence, multiple police teams executed coordinated raids across various abandoned railway colony quarters and nearby areas, targeting an organized drug trafficking network believed to be operating in the town's center, according to police statements made on Monday.

During the operation, law enforcement seized 79.55 grams of suspected heroin hidden in eight containers, along with a mobile phone and a SIM card.

Additionally, authorities recovered Rs 4,92,710 in cash, suspected to be earnings from the illegal drug trade.

SSP Dilip characterized this operation as one of the most significant anti-drug efforts in Dibrugarh in recent years, noting that an organized drug syndicate had allegedly been functioning from abandoned railway quarters near the old railway station for an extended period.

"A letter has been sent to the Divisional Railway Manager in Tinsukia for the eviction of unauthorized occupants on railway property. Efforts are ongoing to capture others believed to be associated with the network," SSP Dilip stated.

The ten detained individuals are currently undergoing interrogation, with several additional names surfacing during the questioning process.

However, the alleged leader of the network has evaded capture and remains at large.

Police also confiscated a significant number of syringes purportedly used for drug consumption and distribution. The seizure included 40 packets, each containing six insulin syringes, totaling 240 syringes, along with six packets of ten high-tech insulin syringes each, adding another 60 syringes to the total.

Furthermore, four vehicles were seized during the operation, along with various ornaments believed to have been acquired through narcotics trafficking proceeds.

The recovered items included two pairs of gold earrings, a gold chain, a gold ring, and a 5-gram silver coin.

Investigators are currently looking into the origins of the seized narcotics, the financial transactions involved, and the broader distribution network in the area.

SSP Dilip mentioned that the investigation is ongoing, with further arrests and seizures anticipated as police ramp up their efforts against drug trafficking in the district.
