Significant Drug Seizure in Cachar District

Three individuals allegedly involved in transporting the consignment were apprehended during the operation.

Silchar, Nov 2: In a collaborative effort, the Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) successfully intercepted a significant drug shipment, seizing 20 kg of crystal methamphetamine valued at around Rs 40 crore in Dholai Bazar, Cachar district, on October 30.

During this operation, authorities detained three suspects believed to be involved in the transportation of the drugs.

As per a statement from the Assam Rifles, the operation was initiated following credible intelligence regarding the movement of a suspected narcotics shipment.

A thorough search resulted in the discovery of 20 packets of crystal methamphetamine, weighing nearly 20 kg. Additionally, three mobile phones and two vehicles, presumed to have been utilized for transporting the drugs, were confiscated.

This seizure marks the first recorded instance of crystal methamphetamine being captured in the region, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat organized synthetic drug trafficking networks. The estimated international market value of the confiscated drugs is Rs 40 crore.

Initial investigations indicate that the drugs likely originated from Mizoram and were funneled through Silchar, which appears to serve as a transit hub for further distribution into mainland India. This suggests the Northeast may be exploited as a corridor for synthetic narcotics trafficking.

The detained individuals, along with the seized drugs, mobile phones, and vehicles, were transferred to DRI Silchar for further inquiry and legal action.

The press release emphasized the critical role of intelligence-driven operations, technical surveillance, and inter-agency collaboration in identifying and dismantling drug trafficking networks. It also reiterated the commitment of the Assam Rifles and allied agencies to thwart the flow of narcotics through the Northeast.
