Security Forces Target Militants in Manipur
Imphal: In a significant operation, security forces apprehended six militants affiliated with four banned groups in Manipur over the last day, as reported by officials on Wednesday.
During these operations, a cache of arms and ammunition was also seized.
According to a police spokesperson, the militants belong to the outlawed People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM), and the People's Liberation Army (PLA) along with its allied group, the Revolutionary People's Front (RPF). They were captured in various locations across Kakching, Bishnupur, and Imphal West districts.
In addition to the arrests, several mobile devices and other materials were confiscated. The detained militants were reportedly involved in extorting money from contractors, government workers, traders, and ordinary citizens.
This brings the total number of militants arrested in Manipur to 11 over the past two days.
Moreover, security forces dismantled an inter-state drug trafficking operation, leading to the arrest of four individuals from Madhya Pradesh and Assam. These arrests occurred in the Leinaganpokpi region of Jiribam district, which borders southern Assam, where authorities recovered 147 kilograms of narcotics, including highly addictive methamphetamine tablets known as Yaba.
The drug traffickers have been identified as Faruk Ali (35), Mafij Uddin (29), and Hanif Ali (28), all from various districts in Assam, along with Santosh Patel (43) from Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh.
Three trucks linked to the drug seizure were also confiscated.
Extensive intelligence-led combing and search operations are currently underway in various districts of the Imphal Valley and mountainous regions to apprehend those involved in extortion and other criminal activities.
Additionally, security forces recovered arms and ammunition in Churachandpur district, including an AK series rifle, a US-made MA-3 MK-II rifle, an INSAS rifle, and a .315 rifle, along with a significant quantity of ammunition.
Both Central and state security forces are actively conducting crackdowns against militant activities, with ongoing search operations and area control initiatives in vulnerable and mixed-population areas throughout Manipur.
