Significant Operation Against Naxalites in Odisha

Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Thursday that a significant operation in the forests of Kandhmal, Odisha, has led to the neutralization of Ganesh Uike, a member of the Maoist Central Committee, along with five other Naxalites.

Shah highlighted this achievement on social media, calling it a crucial step towards a Naxal-free India.

The operation in Kandhmal resulted in the elimination of six Naxalites, including Uike, marking a pivotal moment in Odisha's fight against Naxalism. The Home Minister expressed confidence that the state could be completely liberated from Naxal influence by March 31, 2026.

Ganesh Uike, who had a bounty of Rs 1.1 crore on his head, was identified as the leader of the banned group in Odisha, according to a senior officer overseeing anti-Naxal efforts.

The confrontation with security forces occurred in a forested area within the jurisdiction of the Chakapad police station.

At 69 years old, Uike was also known by several aliases, including Pakka Hanumantu, Rajesh Tiwari, Chamru, and Rupa, and hailed from Pullemala village in Telangana's Nalgonda district.

Authorities are still working to confirm the identities of the other Naxalites involved, which include two women.
