Significant Encounter in Sukma District

Raipur/Sukma: In a significant operation, security forces engaged in a confrontation with Maoist militants in the hilly forests of Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, resulting in the neutralization of one Maoist cadre on Sunday.

The District Reserve Guard (DRG) team initiated the operation following credible intelligence regarding Maoist activity in the area.

According to Sukma's Superintendent of Police, Kiran Chavan, the DRG commenced a search in the dense woods. An exchange of gunfire erupted between the security personnel and the Maoist group starting early on March 29, 2026.

Once the shooting ceased, the search team meticulously examined the encounter site, discovering the body of a male Maoist along with a weapon.

The deceased has been identified as PPCM Moochaki Kailash, a resident of Poolanpad under the Chintalnar Police Station. He was a Section Commander in Platoon Number 31 of the CPI (Maoist) group.

A reward of ₹5 lakh had been placed on his head due to his involvement in multiple cases of civilian murders, assaults on security forces, and IED-related conspiracies.

Inspector General of Police for the Bastar Range, Sundarraj Pattilingam, urged remaining Maoist members to surrender promptly, highlighting that the opportunity for rehabilitation is nearing its end.

He encouraged the Maoists to abandon violence and reintegrate into society, promising a peaceful and dignified life for them and their families. He reiterated that security forces would persist in their operations against those who choose to remain armed.

This encounter occurs as state and central forces ramp up anti-Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) operations in the Bastar division, ahead of a March 2026 deadline set by the Central government to eliminate LWE from the area.

In recent months, numerous Maoist cadres have surrendered and returned to the mainstream, while others have been neutralized in similar operations based on intelligence.

Local residents expressed relief following the successful operation, as the region has faced ongoing Maoist threats.

The body of the deceased Maoist has been sent for post-mortem and legal procedures. A thorough search operation continues in the surrounding forests to locate any other fleeing members of the group.

Police officials confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries among the security forces during this encounter.

This successful operation is viewed as a significant advancement in the ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the troubled Sukma region of Chhattisgarh.
