Significant Operation Against Maoist Threat

Raipur/Bijapur: In a decisive action against Maoist insurgency in the Bastar area, the 199th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) successfully located and neutralized two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that had been planted by Maoists, thus preventing a potential disaster.

As reported by police officials, this operation took place under the jurisdiction of Gangaloor Police Station. A CRPF unit, dispatched from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Koppaguda, was engaged in routine area surveillance and demining activities in the FOB Pidiya vicinity.

Approximately two kilometers from the Pidiya camp, during thorough demining along a road under construction, vigilant personnel discovered the hidden explosives about 50 meters from the roadway.

One of the IEDs was concealed within a tiffin box, while the other was disguised in a beer bottle—a common tactic employed by Maoists to hide pressure-triggered devices.

Both explosives were designed to detonate upon pressure and were believed to be aimed at security forces or vehicles involved in road construction and patrols.

Following established safety protocols, the Bomb Disposal Team from the 199th Battalion safely neutralized both IEDs on-site, ensuring the safety of both security personnel and civilians, according to officials.

Bijapur Police characterized this operation as a thwarting of a significant Maoist plot.

Authorities noted that such explosive devices represent a serious risk to ongoing development initiatives, particularly road connectivity projects vital for remote tribal communities.

"Thanks to the vigilance and prompt actions of the security forces, a lethal scheme was averted. Bijapur Police and the CRPF are fully dedicated to maintaining peace, security, and uninterrupted development in the area," stated a police spokesperson.

This recovery occurs amidst heightened anti-Maoist operations in Chhattisgarh’s Red Corridor, where security forces are intensifying efforts to protect infrastructure projects and establish new camps.

The incident highlights the persistent danger posed by Maoist-laid explosives, despite their diminishing influence due to surrenders and encounters.

Local residents have expressed their support for this action, viewing it as a move towards normalcy and better access to essential services.

Security forces continue to conduct area domination exercises to secure the region and ensure safe passage for developmental activities.
