Fire Incident at Nawaibil Bazaar


Diphu, Feb 5: A significant fire broke out around 1 am on February 4 at Nawaibil Bazaar in the West Karbi Anglong district, resulting in the complete destruction of approximately 17 shops and various establishments.


The affected businesses included hardware outlets, clothing stores, computer shops, stationery retailers, grocery shops, and other small enterprises.


This incident has caused substantial financial setbacks for local merchants and shop owners, severely disrupting their livelihoods.


The market falls under the jurisdiction of the Kherani Police Station, which has initiated a preliminary investigation. A comprehensive assessment of the damages is currently being conducted in collaboration with local authorities and law enforcement. The cause of the fire is still being determined.


In response to this disaster, the chief of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has directed the district administration to implement immediate and thorough measures to assist and rehabilitate those affected, including providing relief and support for business restoration.
