Intense Encounters in Sukma and Bijapur

In a significant anti-Naxal operation this year, security forces have successfully neutralized over 14 Maoists during two intense confrontations in the Sukma and Bijapur districts of Chhattisgarh's South Bastar region.

The primary clash took place in the dense forests of Kistaram in Sukma, where joint security teams were executing a thorough search operation based on intelligence reports.

The forces faced heavy gunfire from Maoists, resulting in prolonged exchanges that lasted several hours.

According to police officials from Sukma and Bijapur, initial reports indicate that more than 14 Maoists were killed in these encounters.

Most of the deceased are believed to be members of the Darbha Valley Committee (DVCM), a significant faction within the Maoist movement. Notably, a Naxal commander linked to the murder of Additional SP Akash Girpunje from Konta was among those neutralized, marking a substantial setback for the group.

Recovered weapons from the scene include an AK-47, an INSAS rifle, along with various ammunition and explosives. The operation is still ongoing, with teams actively searching the area.

The precise casualty figures and identities of the deceased will be confirmed once the forces safely exit the dense forest regions. Due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing anti-Naxal operation, officials have opted not to disclose specific details, including the exact location of the gunfight or the number of security personnel involved.

A senior police official stated to reporters, "The operation is at a critical juncture and continues to unfold. For the safety of our personnel on the ground, we cannot disclose operational details at this time."

Authorities have promised a detailed update, including the identities of the neutralized Maoists, information on the seized weapons, and the overall outcome, will be released only after the mission concludes and the area is secured.

The insurgency has seen a notable decline due to ongoing counter-operations, surrenders, and development efforts.

Currently, the number of affected districts has decreased to fewer than 20, primarily in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

The government aims to eradicate Left-Wing Extremism by March 31, utilizing security camps, infrastructure development, and welfare programs. In recent years, numerous Maoists have either surrendered or been neutralized, weakening their organizational structure. However, underlying issues such as tribal displacement and social inequality remain, posing challenges for a long-term solution.
