Major Adulteration Scandal Uncovered in Hyderabad
Overview of the Adulteration Case
A significant adulteration scandal has recently emerged in Hyderabad, coming to light in March 2026.
Incident Summary: On March 4, 2026, the Commissioner’s Task Force (Golkonda Team) and the Masab Tank police conducted a raid at a unit named Prid Dairy located on Road Number 12 in Banjara Hills. The operation revealed that the establishment was producing fake ghee by mixing palm oil, vanaspati (Dalda), and other inferior substances under the guise of desi ghee.
Arrested Individual:
- Mohammad Junaid Hussain (26 years old), the owner of Prid Dairy, was found to be misusing his valid license.
Seized Items (Total Value Approximately ₹18.26 Lakhs):
- 460 kg of adulterated ghee
- 70 kg of mixed adulterated ghee
- 2,090 kg of adulterated cow cream
- 1,170 kg of adulterated buffalo cream
Additionally, machinery, gas cylinders, utensils, drums, and packaging materials were confiscated, totaling around 3,790 kg of adulterated dairy products.
Method of Adulteration: The accused was creating a product resembling pure desi ghee by blending palm oil, vanaspati, and other low-quality materials into the cream. This toxic adulterated ghee was marketed to consumers, hotels, restaurants, and event organizers as pure desi ghee, posing serious health risks (excessive palm oil and vanaspati can lead to heart diseases and cholesterol issues).
Legal Action:
- A case has been registered at the Masab Tank police station.
- The investigation is ongoing, and further raids/interrogations may follow.
Consumer Advisory:
- Always purchase ghee from FSSAI certified, branded, and reputable stores/companies.
- Check the packaging for labels, batch numbers, manufacturing dates, and ingredients.
- If the price of ghee seems significantly lower than the market rate or if the smell/taste is suspicious, avoid purchasing it.
