Mahbooba Mufti, the president of the People's Democratic Party, has demanded the release of Talib Chaudhary, a tribal rights activist arrested during an anti-encroachment drive. She criticized the treatment of Chaudhary, stating it sends a negative message to the Gujjar-Bakarwal community. Mufti's call highlights the ongoing struggle for tribal rights and the implications of such arrests on marginalized communities. The former Chief Minister urged authorities to reconsider their actions and release Chaudhary, emphasizing the need for justice and support for tribal rights.

Call for Justice for Tribal Rights

The president of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Mahbooba Mufti, has called for the release of party leader and tribal rights activist Talib Chaudhary, stating that his arrest sends a "highly negative message" to the Gujjar-Bakarwal community.

In a post on 'X', Mahbooba expressed her disappointment, saying, "It is unfortunate that PDP leader and prominent social activist Talib Chaudhary has been imprisoned for advocating the rights of marginalized tribal communities." Chaudhary was apprehended on June 1 following clashes with law enforcement during an anti-encroachment drive in the Sidhra area of Jammu.

Mahbooba further stated, "Merely conducting a peaceful march against arbitrary demolition actions in Sidhra and treating him (Chaudhary) like a criminal sends a 'highly negative message' to the Gujjar-Bakarwal community, which has always stood with India." She urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the Jammu and Kashmir police to release the tribal leader.
