Mahayuti Alliance's Remarkable Win
The ruling Mahayuti alliance has secured a significant victory in Maharashtra, winning 207 out of 288 seats in the local council elections, marking its largest majority to date. However, the Shiv Sena UBT has raised serious concerns regarding this outcome. Sanjay Raut, a leader from Shiv Sena (UBT), questioned the legitimacy of the BJP's rise to prominence, drawing parallels with events in Bihar. He expressed skepticism about the democratic process, asking, 'Is this true democracy? Where does the money come from? By looting Maharashtra.'
In this election, the BJP emerged victorious in most of the contested seats, claiming 117, while Shiv Sena secured 53 and the National BJP obtained 37. The Congress party won 28 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) managed nine, and the National BJP-Parliament gained seven. The Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition achieved victories in 44 seats. Additionally, registered parties from outside Maharashtra won seats in four municipal corporations, while candidates from unrecognized parties captured 28 seats, and independent candidates secured five.
Analyzing the results by district, the BJP dominated in Nagpur, winning the highest number of local body seats, including 22 municipal councils and panchayats. Following this, the National Committee won 10 seats in Pune. No other party managed to win more than seven seats in any district. Shiv Sena performed best in Jalna district, winning six seats, while Congress topped in Chandrapur district with seven seats. Among the Maha Vikas Aghadi parties, Congress was the only one to win more than five seats in a single district. Both NCP (SP) and Shiv Sena (UBT) could not secure more than two seats in any district, with Shiv Sena winning two in Yavatmal.
In a post-election statement, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed gratitude to the public and party workers for their support. He remarked, 'This remarkable success is a testament to our dedicated workers; their hard work, commitment, and perseverance made this victory possible.'
