Tragic Incident in Nanded District

A 28-year-old resident of Nanded district in Maharashtra was taken into custody on Monday for reportedly murdering one of his six-year-old twin daughters to meet the eligibility criteria for panchayat elections, according to a report.

As per the Maharashtra Panchayat Raj Act, individuals with more than two children are barred from running in rural local body elections. The accused, Pandurang Kondamangale, had three children: a three-year-old son and twin daughters aged six.

The upcoming panchayat elections are anticipated to occur in June.

Authorities stated that Kondamangale allegedly acted on the suggestion of the village sarpanch, Ganesh Shinde, who is now facing charges as a co-accused in this case.

Sau Chaitanya, the police commissioner of Nizamabad district in Telangana, revealed that Kondamangale reportedly took one of his daughters, Prachi, to the Nizamsagar Canal, which is surrounded by farmland. "He allegedly pushed her into the water and fled the scene," the police official noted.

Nearby villagers heard a splash and rushed to the canal, where they discovered the child floating. Local police were notified, and the body was subsequently retrieved.

Images of the girl circulated widely on social media, leading to her identification by someone from the village in Maharashtra, who then informed the Telangana Police.

Following this, a police team visited the village in Maharashtra to interrogate the father.

Initially, Kondamangale claimed that his daughter was receiving treatment at a distant medical facility, but he later admitted to the crime, according to the police.

He has been charged with murder and criminal conspiracy.
