Maharashtra Government Forms SIT to Investigate Suspicious Health Insurance Claims
Investigation into Health Insurance Claims
Mumbai, August 5 - In Maharashtra, an initial investigation into the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana has uncovered 15,407 dubious health insurance claims. In response, the state government has decided to establish a Special Investigation Team (SIT). According to a government document released on Wednesday, these questionable claims are linked to submissions made between 2024 and 2026. The state has instructed district civil surgeons and health officials to conduct physical verifications of all 15,407 beneficiaries involved.
However, following a review meeting led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on July 10, the government opted to form the SIT, as the alleged fraud appears to be widespread across multiple districts.
