Maharashtra Government Approves ₹681.32 Crore for Holkar Memorial Restoration

The Maharashtra government has approved a significant ₹681.32 crore development plan for the preservation and restoration of the memorial dedicated to Ahilyabai Holkar, an influential 18th-century ruler. This initiative comes ahead of her 300th birth anniversary, with the plan set to be implemented by the district collector of Ahilyanagar. The decision reflects the government's commitment to enhancing important cultural sites, as highlighted by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The plan was developed after consultations with local stakeholders and received swift approval from the cabinet. This investment aims to honor Holkar's legacy and promote the historical significance of her birthplace.

Significant Investment for Holkar Memorial

The Maharashtra government has granted administrative approval for a substantial development plan worth ₹681.32 crore aimed at the preservation and restoration of the memorial dedicated to the 18th-century Malwa ruler, Ahilyabai Holkar, at her birthplace.

This decision was formalized through a government order issued by the state's planning department, coinciding with the upcoming 300th birth anniversary of the valiant queen, which is set for May 31. The memorial is located in Chondi, within the Jamkhed taluka of the newly named Ahilyanagar district (formerly Ahmednagar).

The responsibility for coordinating and implementing this development plan has been assigned to the district collector of Ahilyanagar. In the state budget presented in March, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who oversees the finance and planning departments, emphasized the need to develop significant sites of international and national importance, including pilgrimage areas, through the planning department.

Following consultations with local stakeholders and experts, a draft plan for the preservation and development of Holkar's memorial site was prepared by a committee chaired by the district collector of Ahilyanagar. This plan received approval during a cabinet meeting held in Chondi on May 6.

Within two weeks of the meeting, the planning department, under Pawar's leadership, issued an order granting administrative approval for the ₹681.32 crore restoration and preservation initiative.
