Maharashtra Congress Leader Dismisses Speculations on NCP Split from INDIA Alliance
Nana Patole Addresses NCP Speculations
Nana Patole, a Congress MLA from Maharashtra, has stated that Jayant Patil, the leader of the NCP(SCP) legislative party, has denied any intentions of their faction leaving the INDIA alliance. This statement comes amid ongoing rumors regarding a potential merger between the two factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Patole characterized the possible merger as an internal matter of the party, asserting that the Congress need not be concerned about it.
Clarification from Jayant Patil
In a conversation with a news agency, Patole mentioned that he spoke directly with Jayant Patil, who assured him that they would remain part of the INDIA alliance. Patole emphasized that these are merely speculations and, since Patil has made his position clear, there is no need for further discussion. He noted that whether the issue pertains to the Ajit Pawar faction or the Sharad Pawar faction, it remains an internal party matter, and Congress should not be worried.
Meetings Fueling Rumors
Rumors intensified following late-night meetings in Mumbai, which included NCP(SCP) leader Jayant Patil, ruling NCP leaders Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare, along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The NCP has clarified that these meetings were focused on administrative issues rather than any political alliance changes. Sharad Pawar, the NCP chief, refrained from commenting on the potential rift within his party, stating that it is not the right time to discuss such matters.
Past Statements and Current Dynamics
This stance contrasts with Pawar's earlier comments in June, where he asserted that despite divisions among opposition factions like Shiv Sena (UBT), his party remains united. He had remarked that while Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs have separated, their MPs would not. Various reports suggest that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is attempting to bring Pawar's faction on board to secure necessary votes for the Delimitation Bill in the Lok Sabha. However, NCP(SCP) executive president Supriya Sule has denied any alliances, mergers, or informal discussions with the NDA.
