Chief Minister's Remarks on Thackeray's Speech
On Saturday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis indirectly criticized Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, stating that his speech at a joint rally resembled that of a 'mourner.' He expressed gratitude to Raj Thackeray, the leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, for attempting to reunite the two cousins. Fadnavis remarked that while he was expecting a 'victory' rally, it turned out to be more of a 'lamentation' speech.
Fadnavis pointed out that there was no mention of the Marathi language during the event, emphasizing that Uddhav's address focused solely on how his government was toppled and his aspirations to regain power. He stated, "This rally was not a celebration of victory but rather a display of sorrow." He criticized the undivided Shiv Sena for failing to bring development despite ruling the Mumbai Municipal Corporation for 25 years.
In contrast, he highlighted the transformation of Mumbai under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, mentioning that they provided proper housing to Marathi people in BDD and Patra Chawls, which seemed to irritate Uddhav. The Chief Minister expressed pride in being Marathi and Hindu, asserting that both Marathi and non-Marathi individuals stand with them. BJP leaders in Maharashtra attacked Uddhav and Raj Thackeray, claiming their joint rally was a desperate attempt to revive their political fortunes and regain lost support ahead of the municipal elections, likening it to a 'family reunion.'
Minister Ashish Shelar and BJP Legislative Council member Praveen Darekar also targeted the Thackeray brothers regarding the event. Shelar described the Worli gathering as a desperate attempt by the Shiv Sena (UBT) to reclaim its lost political ground, stating, "This was not a rally for love but rather a public appeasement of a brother who was thrown out. They remembered their brotherhood out of fear of BJP's strength in the municipal elections."
