Maharashtra Chief Minister Addresses Impact of US Tariffs on Exports

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced the formation of a committee to identify sectors affected by US tariffs on exports. He emphasized the need for support measures and highlighted the importance of data centers in enhancing the digital economy. Additionally, Fadnavis provided updates on the rapid progress of the Navi Mumbai International Airport construction, assuring that it will be completed on time. This initiative aims to mitigate the adverse effects of tariffs and bolster the state's economic resilience.
 

Formation of Committee to Address Tariff Impact

On Tuesday, Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the establishment of a committee aimed at identifying sectors affected by US tariffs. The recommendations from this committee will be implemented accordingly.


In response to inquiries regarding the impact of a 50% tariff on Indian exports, he informed reporters that an initial meeting was convened to pinpoint areas in Maharashtra likely to be adversely affected by the high tariff rates. Additionally, strategies to support these sectors are being explored.


Fadnavis reassured, "We have formed a high-level committee to assess the situation across various sectors, identify alternative markets, and propose measures to assist the impacted industries. The recommendations from this committee will be put into action."


Emphasis on Digital Economy and Infrastructure Development

He also highlighted the necessity of data centers to enhance efficiency across all sectors within the digital economy, asserting that Maharashtra is at the forefront of this initiative.


When questioned about the progress of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) construction, he stated that work is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed on schedule.

Regarding the potential completion date of the project, Fadnavis remarked, "The construction at Navi Mumbai International Airport is advancing swiftly. I believe we will meet the established timeline."
