Maharashtra ASI Suspended for Alleged Misconduct with Detainee
Allegations Against ASI in Akola
In Akola, Maharashtra, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has been accused of soliciting sexual favors from a detained woman in exchange for sending his daughter to her. Authorities confirmed that the officer has been suspended and is currently on the run. The accused, Rajesh Jadhav, allegedly requested that his daughter be sent to the woman’s residence while on duty, offering her ₹10,000 in return. The woman was in custody related to a fraud case involving ₹80 lakh. During her time at the police station, Jadhav reportedly remarked, 'You are very beautiful; your daughter must be beautiful too. Send her to me, and I will give you ₹10,000.' Following this, the woman filed a complaint with a female officer present at the station.
Immediate Action Taken by Authorities
In response to the complaint, officials swiftly removed Jadhav from duty. Archit Chandak, the Superintendent of Police in Akola, suspended him with immediate effect. Currently, Jadhav is evading capture, prompting the deployment of three police teams to locate and apprehend him. Senior Police Inspector Anil Jumle, who is overseeing the investigation, confirmed that a formal complaint has been filed and immediate action was taken. He added that efforts to arrest the accused are ongoing, given the serious nature of the allegations.
Concerns Raised Over Officer's Conduct
Dr. Asha Mirge, a former member of the Maharashtra State Women's Commission, noted that there have been previous complaints against Jadhav. Reports dating back nearly a decade highlighted issues related to family disputes and inappropriate behavior towards women, including an incident involving a female police officer. She expressed concern that those responsible for ensuring safety can become violent themselves, emphasizing the need for timely action to prevent such behavior. The prompt response from Akola police has been commended, and officials have assured that strict measures will be taken as the investigation progresses to ensure accountability within the police force.
