Madhya Pradesh Police Forms SIT to Investigate Minister's Remarks Against Colonel

The Madhya Pradesh police have established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate derogatory remarks made by Minister Vijay Shah against Colonel Sofia Qureshi. This decision follows directives from the Supreme Court, which has mandated the SIT to report its findings by May 28. The SIT comprises senior police officials and aims to ensure compliance with the court's orders. The Supreme Court has also reprimanded the minister for his comments, highlighting the need for accountability in such matters. This investigation underscores the ongoing scrutiny of public officials and their conduct.
 

Formation of Special Investigation Team

In response to directives from the Supreme Court, the Madhya Pradesh police established a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) late Monday night. This team will investigate the derogatory comments made by state minister Vijay Shah regarding Colonel Sofia Qureshi, who provided information to the media during Operation Sindoor. The SIT is expected to submit its report to the Supreme Court by May 28.


The order for the SIT's formation was issued by Madhya Pradesh's Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana, emphasizing the need to comply with the Supreme Court's directives.


Details of the Supreme Court Order

The order stated, "In compliance with the decision dated May 19, 2025, in case diary number 27093/2025 (Kunwar Vijay Shah vs. High Court, M.P. & Others), a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is constituted for the investigation of crime number 188/25 under Section 152 of the Indian Penal Code 2023, as per Sections 196(1)(b) and 197(1)(c)." The SIT comprises Inspector General Pramod Verma, Deputy Inspector General Kalyan Chakraborty, and Superintendent of Police Wahini Singh.


Currently, Pramod Verma serves as the Inspector General of the Sagar Range, while Kalyan Chakraborty is the Deputy Inspector General of SAF in Bhopal, and Wahini Singh holds the position of Superintendent of Police in Dindori.


Supreme Court's Reprimand

On Monday, the Supreme Court reprimanded the Madhya Pradesh minister for his 'indecent' remarks against Colonel Qureshi. The court instructed the newly formed three-member SIT to investigate the FIR filed against the minister. The Supreme Court also directed the DGP of Madhya Pradesh to establish the SIT, chaired by an officer of IG rank, by 10 AM on Tuesday, ensuring that a female officer is included in the team to investigate the FIR registered following the High Court's order.
