Innovative Educational Initiative in Madhya Pradesh

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, the Madhya Pradesh government has initiated a remarkable project through 'Sandeepani Schools' that aims to merge the rich heritage of Gurukuls with contemporary education. This year, on the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, as the nation commemorates the contributions of the original guru, Maharishi Vedavyasa, Madhya Pradesh is leading a cultural and educational renaissance that is setting a new direction for the entire country. These schools are not only preserving the ancient traditions of Gurukuls but also incorporating cutting-edge knowledge and science, making Madhya Pradesh the only state in the country to undertake such an initiative.

Celebrating Guru Purnima in Ujjain

Ujjain is not just known for Baba Mahakal; it is also the historical site of Maharishi Sandeepani's ashram from the Dwapar era. On July 29, a Sandeepani Award Ceremony will be held at Madhav Science College in Ujjain, with Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav as the chief guest. Additionally, from July 15 to July 29, a week-long celebration of the Guru-Shishya tradition will take place, during which over 40,000 saplings will be planted under the 'One Guru, One Tree' campaign.

Historical Significance of Ujjain

The sacred ashram of Maharishi Sandeepani in Ujjain was where Lord Krishna and Sudama received egalitarian education together. Here, Krishna and Balarama mastered the four Vedas, six Vedangas, Upanishads, politics, martial arts, music, and life management, studying 64 arts and 14 sciences in just 64 days.

Chief Minister's Commitment to Education

Hailing from the historic city of Ujjain, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav is deeply committed to reviving this esteemed Sandeepani educational tradition. He personally oversees the implementation, quality, and progress of this initiative. His vision has transformed the previous 'CM Rise' program into a new awakening under the 'Sandeepani Schools' banner, reflecting Indian cultural values.

A Fusion of Tradition and Modernity

Sandeepani Schools represent a blend of tradition and modernity. In today's era dominated by artificial intelligence (AI), digital technology, big data, and the internet, information is just a click away. However, there is a subtle distinction between information and 'wisdom.' While the internet can provide answers and AI can write essays, the discernment of right and wrong, along with the cultivation of human values, compassion, and steadfast character, can only be instilled by a 'true guru.'

Expanding the Sandeepani School Network

Currently, the first phase includes 368 Sandeepani Schools, with 274 affiliated with the education department and 94 with the tribal affairs department. The goal for the second phase is to establish an additional 405 schools.

Connecting the Youth with State Pride

The Sandeepani Schools in Madhya Pradesh are linking the current generation with the pride of the state. In the academic year 2025-26, these schools achieved nearly a 90% pass rate in high school and intermediate examinations. Overall, through the Sandeepani Schools, the Madhya Pradesh government is creating a 'unique laboratory for human development' for 21st-century India.
