Expressing sorrow over the loss of the Khategaon police station in-charge, Yadav remarked on X, "The news of Police Station In-charge Shri Dileep Puri ji's passing while on duty in Khategaon is profoundly saddening. I extend my heartfelt tributes to him."

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a senior BJP leader and Union Agriculture Minister, also honored the deceased officer, referring to his death as a significant sacrifice in the line of duty.

Chouhan stated, "Shri Dileep Puri ji, Station House Officer of Khategaon, made the ultimate sacrifice while fulfilling his responsibilities with unwavering dedication and bravery. His untimely passing is deeply mourned."

Puri received a heartfelt farewell in Dewas, and his remains were transported to his ancestral village in Dhar district following the post-mortem.

The unfortunate event transpired late Sunday night when Puri and his team were attempting to stop a truck suspected of carrying illegal liquor on the Harda-Nemawar highway.

Reports indicate that police had received intelligence about a truck allegedly transporting illicit liquor from Harda towards Gujarat via Indore.

In response, Dewas Superintendent of Police, Aditya Mishra, organized over five teams, including personnel from Khategaon, Kannod, and Satwas police stations, to intercept the vehicle.

Dewas SP Mishra stated that multiple teams were deployed to confirm the information and halt the suspected truck.

"A very shocking and unfortunate incident occurred yesterday in the Khategaon police station area. The Station House Officer and SHOs from nearby stations had received alerts about illegal alcohol transportation. To verify this, around five teams were formed," Mishra explained.

During the operation, the truck reportedly ran over Puri as he attempted to stop it, resulting in critical injuries.

He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The police have seized the truck and apprehended its driver.

Investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the liquor, its intended destination, and any potential connections to a larger smuggling network.

Puri, a Sub-Inspector from the 2007 batch, was serving as the in-charge of the Khategaon police station.
