Madhya Pradesh CM Criticizes Mamata Banerjee's Response to ED Raids

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has criticized West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her response to the Enforcement Directorate's raids on the Indian Political Action Committee. Yadav emphasized the importance of cooperation with central agencies, stating that such actions are expected from state leaders. The controversy arises from allegations related to a coal smuggling case, where Banerjee claims the ED seized sensitive party documents. She also accused the agency of irregularities in the voter registration process, which she argues disproportionately affected women and youth. This ongoing political drama highlights the tensions between state and central authorities.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister's Remarks

On Friday, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, expressed his disapproval of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's reaction to the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) raids on the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC). He stated, "Her actions cannot be justified." Yadav emphasized that cooperation with central government agencies is expected from any state chief minister.

Statements Made in Bhopal

While addressing reporters in Bhopal, Chief Minister Yadav remarked, "It is anticipated that any chief minister will collaborate with the ED or any department of the central government. We even take an oath for this purpose. However, if someone acts so irresponsibly, I believe it is unacceptable. As the chief minister of a state, her actions cannot be deemed appropriate."

Context of the ED Raids

This incident is linked to the coal smuggling case involving Mamata Banerjee, where the ED conducted raids at the offices of I-PAC in Kolkata. The raids were reportedly prompted by allegations of interference. Banerjee visited the I-PAC office located on a public road and criticized the central agency for seizing sensitive data related to the party, claiming that the TMC is a registered political party that regularly files income tax returns.

Allegations of Irregularities

Banerjee also accused the ED of significant irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, claiming that 5.4 million voters were removed from the rolls due to alleged "logical discrepancies," disproportionately affecting women and young voters. Furthermore, she alleged that several prominent figures, including economist Amartya Sen, received notices, and accused the BJP of being responsible for 72 deaths attributed to the stress caused by the SIR process.
