Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Calls for CBI Investigation into Missing Couple Case
Request for CBI Inquiry
On Saturday, Mohan Yadav, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to initiate a CBI investigation regarding the case of an Indore couple who went missing in Shillong, Meghalaya last month. Raja was later discovered deceased, while his wife, Sonam, remains unaccounted for.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister stated, “Madhya Pradesh stands in solidarity with Sonam Raghuvanshi's family during this difficult time. I have conferred with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, and senior police officials from Madhya Pradesh are in ongoing communication with their counterparts in Meghalaya. I have requested that a CBI inquiry be launched into this case. We are making every effort to ensure the safe return of Sonam Raghuvanshi.”
Family's Plea to the Prime Minister
The family of Raja Raghuvanshi, a newlywed from Indore, whose body was found in a gorge near Cherrapunji, has reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting a CBI inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Raja and Sonam went missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, with the last sighting on May 23. Raja's body was discovered on June 2, while Sonam's whereabouts remain unknown, prompting ongoing search efforts.
Call for Justice
Vipul Raghuvanshi, Raja's brother, expressed to the media, “We have submitted a letter to the Prime Minister requesting a CBI investigation. We hope both the PM and the Chief Minister will support us, as a CBI inquiry could provide justice for Raja and aid in locating Sonam. The current efforts by the Meghalaya police may not yield justice.”
Meghalaya's Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, expressed his condolences and labeled the incident as tragic, assuring that all necessary actions would be taken to apprehend those responsible.
Details of the Couple's Marriage
The couple married on May 11 and embarked on their trip to Shillong from Indore on May 20. Their family last communicated with them on the afternoon of May 23, after which their phones were turned off later that evening.
