IPL Provides Update on Ngidi
The IPL shared an update via a post on X, confirming that Ngidi is stable and will be released from the hospital shortly. The post stated, "Update: Lungisani Ngidi of Delhi Capitals hit his head on the ground while attempting to take a catch during his team's match against Punjab Kings. He was transported to the hospital after reporting a headache and neck pain. Ngidi is stable and is expected to be discharged soon. Vipraj Nigam is on the field as a concussion substitute."
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred during the third over of Punjab Kings' innings, bowled by Axar Patel. Ngidi attempted to catch a lofted shot from Priyansh Arya but lost control while back-pedaling, landing heavily on his head. This caused immediate concern among the players and staff on the field.
The Delhi Capitals team reacted quickly, bringing a stretcher onto the field for Ngidi. Medical personnel attended to him as he lay on the ground. An ambulance arrived shortly after, and even the opposing coach, Ricky Ponting, came out to assess the situation. Ngidi was then transported to Max Hospital located on Pusa Road in Karol Bagh for further evaluation and treatment.
