Lucknow Super Giants Eliminated from Playoff Contention

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have officially been knocked out of the IPL 2025 playoffs after suffering a six-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). With this loss, only the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) remain in the playoff race.

Match Highlights: LSG vs SRH

LSG began the match strongly, with Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram establishing a solid partnership. However, the SRH bowlers made a significant comeback, restricting LSG to a total of 205 runs. Despite being out of playoff contention themselves, SRH managed to thwart LSG's hopes of qualifying.

Abhishek Sharma was a standout performer for SRH, scoring 59 runs off just 20 balls, supported by Ishan Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen, and Kamindu Mendis. On the other hand, LSG's batting relied heavily on Nicholas Pooran, who contributed 45 runs from 26 balls. Digvesh Rathi took two important wickets, dismissing Sharma and Kishan, but by then, SRH had already taken control of the match.

Rishabh Pant Reflects on the Defeat

In the aftermath of the match, LSG captain Rishabh Pant shared his thoughts on the team's performance and what went wrong against SRH.

"We were aware of the gaps in our lineup due to injuries. As a team, we chose not to dwell on it, but it became challenging to fill those gaps. If we had maintained our bowling strategy from the auction, the outcome might have been different. Sometimes, luck is not on your side. We take pride in our performance and will focus on the positives moving forward."

"We Knew We Were Ten Runs Short," Says Pant

"Our batting lineup is strong, and there were moments when our bowlers executed well. We aimed to maximize our efforts. However, we recognized that we fell short by about ten runs. We performed well in segments but failed to finish the game effectively," Pant added.

"Rathi has shown great promise in his first season. His bowling was impressive, and he stands out as one of the positives from this match."
