Lovlina Borgohain Criticizes Glasgow Restaurant for Inaccurate Map of India

Glasgow, Aug 2: Lovlina Borgohain, an Olympic bronze medalist, has raised concerns regarding a map of India featured on paper napkins at a popular restaurant in Glasgow, which notably excludes the northeastern states of the country.

The Assam boxer highlighted this issue after the Indian sports team was welcomed at Mister Singh's India – The Home of Curry, following their commendable performance at the Commonwealth Games.

The restaurant faced backlash after providing napkins that displayed a map of India lacking representation of the Northeast region. Lovlina expressed her discontent, stating, "The map on the napkins is missing our Northeast. Every part of India is important and should be represented."

Her remarks were echoed by Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), who pointed out that the map also inaccurately represented Jammu & Kashmir.

Singh deemed these inaccuracies unacceptable and called for the restaurant to promptly withdraw the erroneous napkins and replace them with accurate representations of India.

Mister Singh's India, a well-established restaurant in Glasgow for over thirty years, has been a favored spot for visiting sports teams and dignitaries. However, as of this report, the restaurant had not released an official statement regarding the controversy.

This incident occurred amidst a remarkable achievement for Indian boxing at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, where India secured its best-ever performance, winning a total of seven gold medals. Notable gold medalists included Preeti (54kg), Jaismine (57kg), Sakshi (51kg), Priya (60kg), Arundhati (70kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg), and Ankush Panghal (80kg). Additionally, silver medals were earned by Jadumani Singh (55kg), Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), and Narender (90+kg), bringing India's boxing medal tally to ten.

In total, India has achieved 44 medals at the Games, comprising 11 gold, 13 silver, and 20 bronze.
